Motivational Monday

This is a new Monday blog series I am starting up where I will be sharing motivational stories or quotes. We all know how difficult it is to get started on a Monday morning. Monday is really the day which sets the tone of the week for me so for a while now I will stop on a Monday to remind myself to stay motivated and give myself a confidence boost for the week to come which I find really helps!!! In this day and age we focus so much on the negative and never enough on the positive. This is your Monday motivational boost!!!

Today  I am not only going to chose joy  I am also going to chose to appreciate myself which is something we all need to do a little more. Walk out of the house today thinking about how fabulous you are looking and don’t over think it.

How To Style A Bar Cart

Follow Ella Elizabeth’s board Bar Carts on Pinterest.

When I was designing our new living room I knew I wanted to have a bar cart but didn’t know how I wanted it to look. As I always do when I need inspiration for a project I go onto my Pinterest and make a board pinning any pictures that may give me some inspiration.
I bought a baby changing table from Ikea for my bar cart. I know it sounds weird but it was only £25 instead of buying one from somewhere else for more like £200! I spray painted it white it and came out really nice.

In our living room we are mixing metals so I have a mixture of silver and brassy gold with accents of aqua blue and pink tones. A lot of the stuff on my bar we have collected over time and picked bits and bobs up here and there. It is so nice to finally see everything all together!!READ MORE

Summer Weekend Recap

This weekend has been one of my favourites for a long while, the weather was beautiful and we had some nice family time. On Saturday we went strawberry picking, there were so many strawberries we filled 2 pots in less than 10 minutes!! There is something so satisfying about picking your own fruit, it is a great activity for families with young kids to do to understand how food is grown and where it comes from.

Simple Bacon, Tomato and Spinach Pasta

new copy 1This is one of my favourite simple summer recipes to make, it takes no time at all and most of it can be prepared the night before. You could even cook the bacon the night before to make it even quicker. The recipe is light but filling and has a very summer feel. This is the kind of recipe which you can tailor to you and your tastes and add as many or as few ingredients as you want !

IMG_1224 (3)
First you wash your 2 cups of baby spinach and 1 cup of tomatoes, and then you cut your tomatoes into 4 and roughly chop the baby spinach.

IMG_1229 (5)The key to this recipe is good quality ingredients because it is a very simple flavour palate which lets the ingredients shine. If you can’t afford to buy organic vegetables or lardons from the butcher invest in some good quality pasta – it will make a huge difference – trust me !!
oil spray

I recently purchased this healthy oil spray from Pampered Chef and I am loving it! It gives the right amount of oil out which means you don’t use too much.

I put my frying pan over a medium heat with a little bit of oil. You want to cook the bacon for about 8-10 minutes or until it is golden, crispy and delicious! While your bacon is cooking, boil your kettle and put the boiling water into a pan and bring back to the boil.

pastaOnce your water is boiling add your 2 cups of pasta to your pan and cook for 7-8 mins, depending on your pasta instructions. Next drain your pasta and put it in a bowl or back in the pan, mix in the baby spinach and tomatoes – they go together really well. Take you bacon off the heat and drain the oil onto some kitchen roll (optional). Then add your bacon and give it another good mix, place on a decorative plate a drizzle with balsamic vinegar. I use the Jamie Oliver Balsamic vinegar as it has the perfect amount of acidity balanced by a sweet smooth taste.

This is a hit with all my family and it really has something for everyone. If you are feeding kids and they don’t like spinach and tomatoes leave them out. Simple pasta and bacon on together own is delicious too!

I hope you like this recipe as much as I do. It is really quick and simple – perfect for a quick weekday meal.

Upgrade your picnic table with gilded DIY vases and votives. Use a foam brush to apply adhesive to the outside of a mason jar in small, irregular patches. When the sticky substance turns clear—in about 30 minutes— press on sheets of gold leaf. Then, rub away excess flecks with a paper towel for a lovely weathered patina. Get The Perfect Spring Garden

Why I Love Gardening?

I think gardening is good for the soul being out in the fresh air enjoying the sun (not that we get much of it in the UK).Understanding nature is a big thing for me I want to be able to learn from my surroundings. The garden for me is a great stress release and a good work out. Gardening should be something all ages take part in and enjoy, I love the spring because it is the perfect time to get out in the garden and get rid of all the winter weeds. We want our space to be a fun social place which we can enjoy with our family getting the best out of the space we have. Often there is a misconception amongst young people that gardening isn’t cool and only granny’s garden, so now all of our gardens are a dumping ground for our rubbish we don’t want in the house leaving the gardens looking tired and sad.

I have been looking for some modern and unique way to have my garden this year, we moved house recently so it the perfect time to change it up a bit. I think gardens are a difficult thing to navigate being a beginner so I focus on using easy to maintain plants which mean I don’t have to worry about them in the winter  and they  looks after themselves .One thing I do love though is my plant  pots I have so many in the garden. I want to show you some fun, easy ways to plant your pots this spring bringing the life back into your patio or garden. Any age or ability can do this you just need to make time and most of all enjoy it!

Why not recycle your old cans and spray paint them, drill some holes in the bottom to let the water out and plant them up. You could even make them into hanging planters by drilling to holes in each side then loop rope through. Use plants which can cope with cramped conditions like pansies or daffodils.

I love succulents and I think this succulent wall is an amazing idea to add a feature on a plain fence somewhere.
Why succulents are great?
They are great because they stay green all year round and can survive in lots of conditions as long as you use the right soil. Succulents are a little bit pricey so make sure you have  all the information of how to look after them. This would also make a great centre piece for your garden table.

If you are on a budget maybe can’t afford to buy expensive pretty pots you can simply take a terracotta pot which are really inexpensive and spray paint them or use a waterproof paint. Dip dye pots or ombre in pastel colours bring a spring pop of colour to your garden.

If you want a English country style garden maybe have a patio area and want to have some pots why not use baskets this will give you the instant cute country effect. I think hydrangeas or roses would look really nice in these. You will need plants with a bit of body to them which will fill out the baskets or you can do a display using lots of different flowers.

Another way of planting is using an old fruit or veg carrier and plant them up. I have these in my garden and really love the way they look. Use and interesting mixes of different colour and types of plants to create depth and interest in the display mixing short, tall, big and small plants. Of course these will not look great all year round but if you want to add an instant pop of colour and impact for spring this is a great way.

I hope this has given you some ideas of how you can get your garden ready for spring, Click on the images and they will take you to the websites where I found them. I wanted to put together a collection of ideas which I will be doing this spring, I am so looking forward for the weather getting nicer so I can get out in the garden and start planting.
