My Favourite Natural Soap For Sensitive Skin

IMG_0006 IMG_9982

Last weekend me and the family went on a trip out to Snape Maltings which is a gorgeous shopping village on the picturesque banks of the River Alde in Suffolk (obviously I forgot my camera – typical me!😑).
There are lots of individual craft and design shops which were full of wonderful and unique products. I was in one of the craft shops and I stumbled across a little collection of bathing beauty products. They immediately caught my eye because of the beautiful packaging… I love love love pretty packaging!!

As I started reading about the products in the range I became really interested because they are all natural!! (YAY FOR ALL NATURAL!). Georgina Jones founded the business after her son developed eczema and they tried lots of different  products to help calm and not irritate his skin but nothing worked. That is when she started experimenting with handmade and natural treatments. She developed a real passion for making natural skin care. All of her products are a combination of Organic, Fairtrade and home grown ingredients – which is pretty amazing don’t ya think !

I absolutely love that every product is handmade at her workshop in North Wales and all the packaging is recyclable and reusable.

Bathing Beauty is everything I love about independent small businesses. There is so much thought and a unique handmade touch in each product. I could go on and on but this post will get way too long. So here is a great interview she did which explains more about her amazing business Bathing Beauty Interview

Now on to the miracle product I have discovered from Bathing beauty.

I have spoken a little bit about my sensitive skin before but one of my biggest struggles is my hands. Whether it is summer, winter or any season my hands are so sensitive and sore. Recently I have noticed that the soaps I have been using to wash my hands have been making them so much worse. So I went out and bought some ‘natural’ soap (or so it claimed to be) but nothing was working and my hands were still so irritated after using them. BUT that is when I found my new EVERYTHING – the Miracle oat and honey soap by Bathing Beauty. Now you may be think I am getting a bit over excited about soap but it is so nice to not feel like my hands are on fire after simply washing them!! If you have sensitive skin you will know the feeling 😂

The first thing I noticed was that the soap lathers perfectly and moisturises the skin without leaving any residue. Also, there isn’t any strong fragrance to the soap which I prefer personally and that is also to do with the ingredients as it is made with honey and organic oats. I was surprised at how much soap you get for the price of £4.00 considering it is handmade. There is so much and it lasts a long time. I love the small flecks of oats in the soap – it makes it look so pretty. I have now also started using the soap in the shower as well because body washes are a no no for my sensitive skin… the struggle is real😂

About The Wonderful Ingredients

One of the amazing qualities of this soap is that it is free from synthetic fragrance oils, parabens and sulphates. This is something I look for when buying skin care. There is also water from the 5th century pilgrimage site; St Dyfnogs Spring in LLanrhaedr. It is reputed to have skin healing properties. To this they add local honey from Pwllglas and organic oatmeal. The ingredient list is short and I know exactly what I am putting on my skin. Each ingredient is there to help your skin not hurt it.

If you suffer from sensitive skin I would 100% recommend this soap, it has really worked for me. I am definitely going to have to try some of their other products. I have my eye on their ladies shaving oil, it sounds amazing!! It is so important to look after your skin and be aware and understand what your skin care is made from because it can affect your skin. I would suggest if you have an interest in natural skin care it is really worth doing a bit of research for ingredients that will work to help your particular sensitivities.

Miracle Oat And Honey Soap – Bathing Beauty

I have really tried to give as much information as I can but still trying to condense it so you don’t feel overwhelmed. You can tell natural skin care is something I am really passionate about😂. I truly hope you can take something away from this post. Let me know in the comments or tweet me if you enjoyed this post and want to see more!!

Gift DIY – Fathers Day Wall Art

IMG_0048 IMG_0036

With Father’s Day just around the corner I wanted to create a really unique gift that will make your dad’s Father’s Day really special.  I think homemade gifts are the best!! My dad is the most difficult person to buy presents for because he never wants anything!! So this year I decided to spare myself the torture and make him something instead. He is always fixing things in the house or helping me with a project and he really is an ‘expert’ DIYer (I have learnt from the best)😂. I decided I wanted to create a piece of art to celebrate his love for DIY and to tell him how amazing he is!!

When we were on holiday in the Peak District recently we stumbled across an antique collectors paradise. It was a shop full to bursting of everything known to man. I found a vintage saw which I knew would be perfect for this little project.
This diy is completely customisable!! If you’re not great at hand painting letters you could use stencils, stickers or chalk pens to give the same effect.
I absolutely love how it turned out and can’t wait to give this to my dad on Father’s Day (not quite sure how I am going to wrap it though…)

IMG_0034 IMG_0037 - Copy

YOU WILL NEED
A saw (I found a vintage one but a wooden handled saw from a DIYshop will do)
Masking tape
Coarse sandpaper
Sanding block
Spray paint (I used a grey/blue colour or your choice of colour)
Spray paint primer
Acrylic paint (orange and white)
Different sized paint brushes
Ruler

1.Firstly start of by sanding down the blade of the saw, using the sanding block will help protect your fingers, but you still need to be really really careful. Once you are happy that the blades are blunt enough you will want to give the saw a good clean with a soapy cloth. Dry the saw really well after.

2.Next cover the wooden handle with masking tape to protect it from being spray painted I also used paper to cover the larger area of the handle. Then spray the saw with the primer-  you want an even coat on both sides. Let the primer dry for the time it says on the back of the can, as each primer is different.

3.Once the primer is dry you can now start spray paint. You will want to do thin coats to create a really even colour. Let the paint dry completely otherwise the acrylic paint won’t stick and it will be a nightmare.

4.Now it is time to start the tricky part which is hand painting your design. I went free style and didn’t plan what I was going to do – I just went for it. I would start by using the ruler to create the geometric lines with a thin paintbrush, let that dry. Then move on to the letters and start painting use different shaped brushes to create different font styles.

Top tip: add a small amount of water to your brush; this will help your brush move easier when doing curly fonts.

That’s it you are all done!! All that is left is to give it to your dad on Father’s Day and hang it on the wall!!

Triple Chocolate Cookies Recipe

IMG_9940

Happy Friday everyone!! Last night I decided to make my family some triple chocolate cookie ( yes I said TRIPLE)!!! I can’t begin to tell you how much I LOVE these cookies. This is definitely the recipe for you if you are a chocoholic…which I am 100%. This is probably the most indulgent recipe I have ever made; these cookies are gooey, fudgy and extremely chocolatey. I know they aren’t the healthiest but everyone deserves a treat once in awhile, at least that is what I tell myself 😔.I am loving baking on lazy weekends at the moment and this is definitely one of my new favourite recipes!!!

IMG_9950

Makes 13 cookies

200g unsalted butter (room temperature)
300g caster sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large free range egg
275g self-raising flour
75g cocoa powder
A dash of milk
A bar of milk chocolate – I used Cadburys
A bar of white chocolate (my favourite is Milky Bar)
Half a bar of good quality dark chocolate

  1. Preheat the oven to 200c.
  2. First cream together the butter, caster sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add the egg.
  4. Then add all the dry ingredients and mix really well.
  5. Add a dash of milk to the mixture and break up all the chocolate into chunks and add to the mixture. Mix well to evenly distribute the chocolate chunks.
  6. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place about a heaped table spoon of mixture onto the tray; you should be able to fit 6 cookies on a tray as they spread in the oven.
  7. Bake for 11 minutes, when they come out of the oven they won’t looked cooked but they will firm up as they cool. They are best to eat when completely cool!

Now all that is left is to enjoy these yummy cookies with everyone…trust me everyone will be wanting the recipe!!

Super Easy Mini Meringues Recipe

IMG_8716

Another day, another recipe  – and this is one of my summer favourites!! I am really into baking at the moment. For me there is nothing better than a lazy weekend baking and relaxing in the sun… I just hope the sun comes back! There is a misconception with meringues that they are hard and a fuss to make but they really aren’t! This recipe is so simple and the perfect beginner’s recipe, it has never failed me. For me the best way to serve meringues is with a dollop of freshly whipped cream on the top and fresh mixed berries – my favourites are raspberries and strawberries also kiwis are really delicious too!!

Meringues are the best summer treat and I decided to make them mini so they were the perfect individual size and they look extra cute! I have found that it is best to eat meringues on the same day they are baked if you add the cream to them otherwise they will lose their crunchy texture. However if you don’t add the cream and fruit they will last longer. I like to assemble them with the cream and fruit an hour or so before they are going to be eaten. If you are having a party you could create a “make your own meringue” station so people can make their own with all their favourite toppings!! Now it’s time for the recipe and pretty photographs…

IMG_8663IMG_8718 IMG_8721 IMG_8709

Recipe makes 8-9 small meringues

YOU WILL NEED
2 egg whites
100g caster sugar
double cream
mixed berries

  1. Preheat the oven to 100c
  2. Put the egg white into a clean bowl or mixer and whisk. You want the egg whites to form soft peaks; this will take a while so be patient especially if you are hand mixing. The egg whites will start as little frothy bubbles and will build into soft peaks slowly but surely.
  3. Next add half of the caster sugar and mix; you want the mixture to thicken until it ends up a bit like shaving foam. You should be able to hold the bowl upside down without any mixture coming out.
  4. Fold in the rest of the sugar gently using a large metal spoon. Then line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  5. Spoon a tablespoon or so of mixture onto the baking tray to form each mini meringue using another spoon to help the mixture off the other tablespoon. I also use a teaspoon to smooth out the tops it makes a flatter top which gives a better surface for adding toppings.
  6. Place the meringues into the oven for 1.5 – 2 hours. You will be able to lift them off the baking paper easily when they are done. Also they will be slightly cracked. The meringues will not spread or rise in the oven they just set firm. Remove from the oven and let them cool.
  7. Finally you will want to whip up the double cream and chop up your chosen fruits into small chunks.
  8. All that is left is to assemble the meringues and enjoy them in the sun!!
